Valentine's Day/Amber & Cowan's Wedding

It was a cold start to the day compared to the 85 we were spoiled with the day before, but it was a happy day nonetheless! Two of my best friends were about to be MARRIED! Sam and I woke up early to go help decorate for the reception! The wind made it difficult to do, but we got it done! It looked pretty spiffy! At 10:30 Amber's mom, Amber, and I left to get our hair done! Ahhh don't you just love being a girl! Amber borrowed my tiara from my wedding which made me feel pretty special and man did her hair look gorgeous! It was up and very curly! I had mine curled in large loose curls and pinned half up! Looked pretty good if I do say so myself! While this was happening Sambo was running last minute errands - getting markers for the guestbook frame, super glue for some decorations that got blown over in the wind, etc. We were all so busy! Cowan and his dad and brothers went golfing - lucky men! (I hate golfing, but they missed all the busy work!!)

After the hair appointment I went to my hotel to start getting ready. The wedding was not until 3:30, but pictures were supossed to start at 2:00. I am notoriously the slowest person in the world when it comes to getting ready - especially if I have to put on makeup! And I was so tired! I had been up most of the night before! Apparently baby K didn't think mom needed her beauty sleep! : )

Finally it was time for the wedding festitivites to begin! It was windy and a little chilly, but very sunny and Amber looked beautiful! Cowan looked pretty handsome too in his polka dot tie : ).
The vows were beautifully spoken and had basically the entire audience in tears!

The reception turned out beautiful - everyone danced and had a blast and the food was delicious! The cake turned out beautiful and it was pretty tasty - it was red velevet flavor and I had never had that prior to Amber's wedding!

As soon as I find my USB I will have to share pictures! Everyone looked beautiful and everyone had a blast! And Amber & Cowan are finally married after 7 years of being together! Congrats to them!!

And Sam looked pretty sexy in his pink shirt and tie : )

This will probably be multiple entries because if I post about our whole trip in one blog, no one will want to read that much at once!!
Well Baby K. has been to five states already in it's short life! Thursday February 12 Sam and I left for San Antonio, TX for our dear friends' Amber & Cowan wedding! In one day Baby K. was in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas!
Sam & I left our house at 7:30AM - we stopped in Council Bluffs and had Panera for breakfast then it was TX bound!
We got to Kansas around noon and we stopped for lunch at McD's (yuck!) and drove straight through to Ardmore, OK where we stopped at this restaurant called Two Frogs. It was SO DELICIOUS!
We finally got to Texas about 8pm but didn't actually get to our hotel until 3am! Texas is the worst, most traumatizing state to drive through (IMO!!). Nothing is marked that well and you don't know when you leave one city and get to another until you realize you passed them both! I drove from about 100 miles outside Austin, TX to Austin so Sam could sleep for awhile (he drove the other 1,000 miles!) Once we got to Austin I started bawling because it was so scary driving down there! The exits are set up so differently than any other state I have ever been to - there really is no warning prior to the exit so you have to dive bomb through traffic to try and make it off. Traumatizing!!!
Well we finally got to our hotel and even though Sam had called and booked our room prior to the trip they didn't have a room for us! Fortunately they had ONE room that was available for 3 days! It ended up being a double room with really uncomfortable beds, but we were just thrilled to have somewhere to rest our pretty little heads!
After a few hours of sleep Sam and I got up and had some breakfast before heading into San Antonio to go to see the Alamo. It was pretty interesting - and you know Sam, he loves his history! He was like a kid in the candy store there! We spent a few hours there - and it was just gorgeous outside - we couldn't have asked for better weather! (85 in February, woo!) and then we went across the street to the famous River Walk. That is gorgeous! I will have to post pictures of it because there are no words to explain the beauty! Then we went to the buckhorn museum and had lunch - but we didn't actually go through the museum because we didn't have time before we had to get ready for Amber & Cowan's dinner!
Sam and I left and headed back to Castroville where all the wedding festitivies were taking place and man it is a good thing we left when we did! If you think Omaha traffic is bad during rush hour - try going through San Antonio at 4:30! It took us about an hour to make it back to the hotel (which was about 25 miles!).
Finally we got ready to go to the dinner and got to meet a lot of the wedding party and I finally got to meet Amber's beautiful sisters I have heard so much about! It was nice to see Amber's mom and grandma again as well! We also got to meet Cowan's family for the first time! It was pretty great!

Well I will have to update later about the wedding - I need to shower and get ready!! : )

We got to hear the heartbeat today! It was pretty amazing! Dr. Carlson guessed the rate to be around 150bpm - so much faster than the first time (it was 114bpm at 6w5d!).
They said if they couldn't find the HB with the doppler they were going to do an ultrasound - so I was hoping it would still be too early to hear it with the doppler! lol..but I am just as happy hearing it :)

We are meeting with the midwife Feb 19...but I am unsure as to what I want to do as far as medical care. I really adore my OB - but I know that she will more than likely not be the one to deliver and I really want that Dr/Patient relationship that I think will be more probable with a midwife.

Not much else to update....just basking in the glory of hearing baby Kenkel's heartbeat.

OH and Sam and I decided on names today...but you will just have to wait until August to find out names & gender :P

Well I have been so busy I haven't had much time to update! When I say busy...I really mean TIRED! I could sleep for years and still not have had enough sleep!

Sam and I met with Dr. Carlson on Thursday January 29. I really adore her - she is a wonderful Dr. - however I am exploring my options and meeting with a midwife on February 19. I am really looking into the possibility of a water birth. I have been doing a TON of research and for what I am hoping for - a water birth best fits. I want a drug free birth becaused based on my research drugs - especially an epidural - is not a risk I want to take. I am lucky in that my hospital (UNMC - Olson Center for Women's Health) lets women make their own decisions on their birth plans.

Fortunately I LOVE to do research and have been purchasing TONS of books about being pregnant (new territory to me!) and loving being an educated patient. I don't like going into any situation feeling uneducated and scared so I am glad I started my research early!

I guess I really have nothing else to update on, unfortunately. I think I am going to make chocolate chip cookies!
